Terms of Service
The short version
- Squarelink is for students who are 18 or older.
- We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior.
- You can hide, report and block at any time. We review every report within 24 hours.
- If something breaks these rules, we remove it and we remove the person who posted it.
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Squarelink AI (“Squarelink”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Squarelink app and website at squarelink.ai (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can use Squarelink
You must be at least 18 years old and be a current university student with a working university email address that you can verify. Squarelink is currently open to UC Berkeley students. You confirm that the information you give us is true, and that you are allowed to enter into this agreement.
2. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your university email. Keep access to that email secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Do not pretend to be someone else, and do not create an account for another person.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.
3. Community rules: zero tolerance
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on Squarelink. You may not post, send or share anything, anywhere in the Service (squares, join requests, messages to your agent, group chats, names, photos, bios), that:
- is sexually explicit, or sexualizes anyone;
- harasses, bullies, threatens, stalks or intimidates anyone;
- is hateful or discriminatory, or attacks people because of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or any similar trait;
- is violent, promotes violence, or encourages self-harm;
- involves illegal activity, illegal drugs, or weapons;
- is spam, a scam, or an attempt to sell something or collect personal information;
- shares someone else’s private information, photos or messages without their permission;
- pretends to be another person, a student you are not, or Squarelink;
- is otherwise unlawful, or that we reasonably think is harmful or objectionable.
You also may not abuse the Service itself: no scraping, no automated accounts, no attempts to break or get around our safety tools, and no attempts to contact someone who has blocked you.
4. Reporting, hiding and blocking
- Hide. You can hide any square so it no longer appears in your feed.
- Report. You can report any square or person from the ⋯ menu. You do not need to write anything. The person you report is not told who reported them.
- Block. You can block any person. After that, neither of you sees the other’s squares, profile or messages. They are not told.
- You can also email us at safety@squarelink.ai, or use Help & safety in the app.
5. What we do about it
- We filter text for objectionable content, and a message or post that matches the filter is not sent or shown.
- We review every report within 24 hours.
- If content breaks these Terms, we remove it, and we remove the account of the person who posted it. We may also remove a person after a single serious violation, without warning.
- A removed person cannot sign in again with the same email. If you think we made a mistake, write to us at the address above.
6. Your content
You own what you post. You give Squarelink a limited, non-exclusive license to host, display and deliver it to the people you chose to share it with, so that the Service works. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep for safety, legal reasons, or reports that are already open. You are responsible for your content and you promise you have the right to share it.
7. Your agent and AI
Squarelink uses an AI agent to help you find activities and people. The agent can make mistakes. It does not book anything, and it does not show your name to another student, without your explicit approval in the app. Please read what the agent shows you before you tap Approve. Messages to your agent are processed by a third-party AI provider as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Meeting people in person
Squarelink helps students find each other. We are not a party to any activity, we do not supervise it, and we do not check the background of anyone beyond confirming their university email. Use good judgment: meet in public places at first, tell a friend where you are going, and leave if you feel uncomfortable. You are responsible for your own safety and your own conduct. If you are in danger, call 911.
9. Ending your access
You can stop using Squarelink at any time. We can suspend or end your access at any time if you break these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop offering the Service. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as 6, 10, 11 and 12) continue after your access ends.
10. The Service is provided “as is”
We work hard to keep Squarelink useful and safe, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”, without promises of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We do not promise that it will always work, that it will be free of errors, or that you will find a match. We are not responsible for what other users say or do.
11. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, Squarelink and the people who run it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
12. Apple App Store
If you downloaded Squarelink from the Apple App Store: this agreement is between you and Squarelink only, not Apple. Apple has no duty to provide support or maintenance for the app, and has no responsibility for claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You must also follow Apple’s usage rules and the terms of any third-party services you use with the app.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app or by email before it starts. If you keep using Squarelink after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Alameda County, California, and you and Squarelink agree to those courts.
15. Contact
Questions, reports or concerns: safety@squarelink.ai. We reply to safety reports within 24 hours.
